Colorado State University-Pueblo STUDENT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
CONSTITUTION
I. PREAMBLE
The organization shall be open to all students who meet all
reasonable established organization qualifications, and such
qualifications shall not be based on race, religion, gender,
creed, color, age, disability, sexual orientation, or veteran
status (Vietnam Era and/or disabled) unless provided by law.
This does not prevent “discrimination free” criteria for
membership to be applied e.g., GPA, major, language facility.
II. STUDENT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The name of such organization shall be the Colorado State
University – Pueblo Student Alumni Association, heretofore may
be referred to as the SAA.
III. MISSION STATEMENT
The purpose of the Student Alumni Association is to promote the
interests of the University; to foster a spirit of loyalty,
common interests, cooperation, and fellowship while developing
leadership skills for all students involved with the University,
its Alumni Association and local businesses. The SAA shall also
create potential job opportunities for its members through
various activities offered separately and/or in conjunction with
the Alumni Association or the University and its diverse
elements; to assist in developing and promoting support for the
Alumni Association; and to be the primary liaison between the
students and the Alumni Association.
IV. QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the SAA shall be open to all currently enrolled
students at CSU-Pueblo. Voting privileges shall be restricted to
“regular” membership, which shall be available only to currently
enrolled CSU-Pueblo students. Occasionally, there may be ad hoc
committees formed allowing CSU-Pueblo alumni and/or community
leaders to participate for the overall advancement of the SAA
membership, the organization, the Alumni Association and/or the
university.
V. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE/ OFFICER DUTIES
PRESIDENT: The President shall be a currently enrolled
CSU-Pueblo student (must be taking at least six credit hours)
and shall provide guidance, direction and support for the
organization in pursuit of its goals and objectives. The
President shall also have the specific powers to call a general
or special meeting and be responsible for presiding over such
meetings. The SAA President shall report directly to the
Director of Alumni Relations. He or she will also help foster
development and implementation of ideas and action plans to be
presented to the SAA Board of Directors for various fundraisers
and events to stimulate student/campus/community involvement.
VICE PRESIDENT: The Vice President shall be a currently enrolled
CSU-Pueblo student (taking at least six credit hours). The Vice
President shall assume the duties of the President in the
absence of the President. He or she will also help foster
development and implementation of ideas and action plans to be
presented to the SAA Board of Directors for various fundraisers
and events to stimulate student/campus/community involvement.
SECRETARY: The Secretary shall be a currently enrolled
CSU-Pueblo student (taking at least six credit hours). The
Secretary shall keep an accurate record of all formal
proceedings. The Secretary shall be responsible for notifying
all active members of all meetings and provide copies of the
minutes of the previous meeting to all members present at each
meeting. The Secretary shall maintain a current membership
registry of all members in the SAA. The Secretary and the
Treasurer may be one in the same. He or she will also help
foster development and implementation of ideas and action plans
to be presented to the SAA Board of Directors for various
fundraisers and events to stimulate student/campus/community
involvement.
TREASURER: The Treasurer shall be a CSU- Pueblo student
(currently taking at least six credit hours). The Treasurer
shall keep an accurate record of all transactions of the club.
This officer shall collect dues where applicable, arrange for
payment of debts and keep a current account of the financial
status of the organization. The Treasurer and the Secretary may
be one in the same. All financial transactions must be approved
by the SAA Executive Committee and by the club sponsor. He or
she will also help foster development and implementation of
ideas and action plans to be presented to the SAA Board of
Directors for various fundraisers and events to stimulate
student/campus/community involvement.
PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER(S): The primary Public Relations
Officer(s) must be currently enrolled CSU-Pueblo students
(taking at least six credit hours). The Public Relations
officer(s) shall encourage recruitment and membership into the
Student Alumni Association. The SAA Public Relations Officer(s)
shall be focused on continued community involvement and
obtaining business and community discounts for the CSU-Pueblo
Students/Alumni Discount Program. The P.R. Office shall maintain
an updated list of all participating merchants in the Discount
Program. He or she will also help foster development and
implementation of ideas and action plans to be presented to the
SAA Board of Directors for various fundraisers and events to
stimulate student/campus/community involvement.
ALUMNI ADVISOR: In addition to the Alumni Director as SAA club
sponsor, there may be an additional board member to serve on the
Executive Committee of the SAA in an at large/alumni advisory
capacity. Alumni Advisor must be an alum of CSU-Pueblo, and may
be appointed by the Director of Alumni Relations. He or she will
also help foster development and implementation of ideas and
action plans to be presented to the SAA Board of Directors for
various fundraisers and events to stimulate
student/campus/community involvement.
VI. ELECTIONS
No officer may serve more than two consecutive terms (four
semesters). Elections shall be held each fall semester prior to
the conclusion of that term. Nominations shall come from the
membership or from the club sponsor at a regular or specially
called meeting. New officers shall be determined by a majority
vote of the membership present. In the case where officers’
posts become vacant due to a cause other than termination by
board vote, replacement shall be according to the normal
procedure: nomination and majority vote.
VII. TERMINATION OF OFFICERS/DIRECTORS
a. The current SAA Board of Directors by affirmative vote of
two-thirds of all members of the Board may suspend or expel an
officer or member of the Board for cause. “For cause” is conduct
which constitutes willful or wanton misconduct, willful or
wanton neglect of duties, intentional injury or criminal act
causing damage to the person or property of others, or as
misrepresentation of the SAA thereby unbecoming to the
individual, the organization and/or the university.
b. Said member may have the opportunity to appeal the decision
to the board at the next regularly scheduled SAA board meeting.
The board will then discuss and vote for said member’s
reinstatement.
c. In the event an officer has been called for removal by the
membership of the SAA, a statement of charges must be presented
to the club sponsor to determine “for cause.” Said officer may
be called on to respond to the charges, and may appeal if
necessary.
VIII. CLUB SPONSOR
The SAA shall be sponsored by the Colorado State University –
Pueblo Alumni Association and the current Director of Alumni
Relations. SAA club sponsor need not be present at SAA meetings;
however, all major decisions affecting the Alumni Association,
the university and/or community relations must be advised and
approved through the club sponsor first.
IX. FINANCES
All required financial transactions shall be conducted through
the CSU-Pueblo Business Office. An account will be assigned to
the organization once the charter has been approved. All
financial transactions shall be recorded and records maintained
by the club Treasurer, and must be approved by all members of
the Executive Committee and the club sponsor.
X. MEETING TIMES
This organization shall meet at least once every two weeks, to
be determined by the Executive Committee, beginning within two
weeks of the start of the fall term and continuing throughout
the year at this same regularity so long as this organization
continues to remain chartered under the existing ASG guidelines.
The decision to meet during vacation periods and/or summer
semester shall be determined by the Executive Committee at a
regular or specially called meeting.
XI. QUORUM
There is no minimum number of persons required to hold a Student
Alumni Association meeting, however, a quorum of the registered
membership is required in the event of a vote (meaning one more
than half of the registered membership).
XII. VOTING
All official club decisions shall require a simple majority vote
of the membership present at either a regular or specially
called meeting provided a majority of the membership is present;
with the exception of impeachment votes which require a ¾ vote
plurality, and amendments which require 2/3 plurality.
XIII. AMENDMENTS TO CONSTITUTION
Amendments shall come from the floor at any regular or called
meeting, provided a majority of the membership is in attendance. Amendments require:
- motion,
- second,
- discussion,
- 2/3 voting plurality.
Said amendments shall be submitted to the appropriate ASG
committee chair for feedback/recording. |
