From
detention counselor to professor to author, James Jefferson “Jeff”
Broome, class of 75, graduated from the University with a bachelor’s
degree in philosophy and psychology, and went to Baylor on scholarship
in 1976 for his master’s degree in philosophy. After working as
detention counselor with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department and
program director for the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center in Denver
for a decade, Jeff enrolled in the Ph.D. program at CU, Boulder where he
earned another MA in 1995, and his doctoral degree in philosophy in
1998. During his study, Jeff began teaching philosophy at Arapahoe
Community College in Littleton, Colorado, where he remains today. In
addition to his many publications on philosophy, Broome has also
published several articles on Indian wars history, as well as a 368-page
book entitled Dog Soldier Justice: The Ordeal of Susanna Alderdice in
the Kansas Indian War, which sold out quickly, and is now in its second
printing. A 5th generation Coloradoan, his family roots extend to the
Pueblo region as early as 1859. Many Puebloans will remember the
prominent camera/card stores known as Broome Brothers. |
